NEVER use candles or matches during an emergency!
Candles may cause fires, or even an explosion in extreme situations, especially if there's a gas leak. Instead use flashlights or a headlamp.
Be sure your text alert is loud enough to wake you up in case there is a NIXLE alert in the night
Emergencies happen at all hours, including the middle of the night when you're asleep! Be sure to have your phone's volume all the way up before you go to bed. This way the County alerts will wake you up and you have enough time to respond to the emergency.
Know your EVACUATION ZONE
Zonehaven is a tool for you to find your zone. This zone will be referenced in your Nixle alerts when there is an evacuation. You can find your evacuation zone with the ZONEHAVEN interactive online map. Once the map pops up, type in your address and Zonehaven will show you your zone: community.zonehaven.com
Evacuate immediately if you hear a Hi-Lo siren

Make a plan for your pets and livestock

Keep your critical documents together in an accessible location
Outside of your personal safety, your critical documents should be your priority. These documents really come into play when you recover after an emergency, so having them together and in an accessible location makes for less work during the recovery phase.
Keep a fire extinguisher handy in case of a small fire
It's important to have a fire extinguisher in case of a small fire to prevent further damage to property. If you have a fire extinguisher, but don't know how to use one, watch these videos on the COAD Fire Preparedness page. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PUT OUT LARGE FLAMES - this may result in injury or death.
Check out free apps as an additional resource during an emergency
Free apps - like Watch Duty - on your smart phone as an UNOFFICIAL yet important sources of information that provide notifications about local fires. These apps may provide you with information around the progress of fires and other disasters, but remember that ONLY ALERT NAPA COUNTY WILL PROVIDE OFFICIAL INFORMATION regarding evacuations and shelters.
